SABLAYAN LEGISLATIVE BRANCH LAUNCHES BOOK

With the task of bringing into the minds of the young generation the life and achievements of former vice-mayors and chief legislators of the Municipality of Sablayan, the book “Anthology of Sablayan Legislators from 1941-2022″ was launched conjoining with the final session of the 10th Sangguniang Bayan of said Municipality. The book project was a brainchild of Vice-Mayor Walter B. Marquez who was recently sworn into office as its new municipal mayor.
The event was held at the Session Hall in the Legislative Building of Sablayan Monday, June 27, 2022.
In his opening remarks, Felipe D. Saligumba, its project director, thanked all those involved in publishing such a historic project defying all the obstacles brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. “It’s been a long journey, and it couldn’t have done it without the support of each one of you,” he says. The Editorial Board consists of Dr. Helen O. Legaspi, chief editor, and her members Ms. Lucena Cusi and Mr. Leovino Bundang.
In-coming Mayor Marquez stressed that this project is just the beginning and even assured us that there will be other projects in the pipeline towards recognizing the legacy of our community leaders of yore and other outputs highlighting Sablayan’s local history through literature and arts.
Sablayan oldtimer Lorenzo “Lory” Ordenes’ compilation of stories was incorporated in the book and the back-cover blurb was written by Eunice Barbara C. Novio, a multi-awarded Thailand-based journalist and educator who has roots in Sablayan while Sangguniang Bayan Secretary Cristeta Viguila inscribed the foreword. Jocelyn Dantayana Magseco, Grecy Fe Garlit, Eduardo Alfaro, Agnes Dianzon, Norman Novio, Leila Mangao Dimaculangan, and, Ms. Maricel Mateo contributed their individual stories to the anthology.
